Kohli removed from the captaincy: After the deadline of 48 hours, handed over to Rohit

The BCCI removed Virat Kohli from the captaincy, despite his unwillingness, giving an ultimatum of 48 hours. He didn't even resign. In his place, Rohit has been given the command of ODIs. This claim is being made in media reports quoting sources. Kohli was keen on captaincy in the ODI World Cup to be held in India in 2023.

Kohli had voluntarily left the captaincy of T20. The BCCI was expecting the same from him for the ODI format as well. The record of the Indian team has been excellent under the captaincy of Kohli. The team played 95 ODIs out of which 65 were won and 27 were lost. There are three ties or no result. The team's win percentage was 68. However, they failed to get the team any ICC trophy.

Rohit Sharma has captained the T20 home series against New Zealand. India won this series 3-0. This series was also the first series for Rahul Dravid as a coach.Team India will have two captains for the first time after 2017. Earlier, from 2014 to 2017, there were two captains in the Indian team. Dhoni had retired from Test cricket in 2014 and Virat Kohli became the new captain of the team. Dhoni was playing as captain in the shorter format. After this, Kohli has captained India in all three formats since 2017. Now after Kohli quits the T20 captaincy, Rohit and Kohli will be two different captains of India.
