Kerala YouTuber’s Family Alleges Jail Authorities Forcibly Cut His Hair: The family of the YouTuber from Thrissur in Kerala, in custody for attempted murder, allege that the jail staff made him cut his hair forcibly.

The YouTuber was subsequently shifted to a mental asylum after he began showing signs of agitation due to the cutting of hair, PTI reported.

26-year-old Muhammad Shaheen Shah, called 'Manavalan' (the groom) on YouTube, was remanded to judicial custody on Friday after being accused of trying to knock down college students with his car.

Prison officials have said that the haircut was done as per jail regulations. After feeling distressed, he was moved to Thrissur and has since been placed under supervision.

His parents and brother, however, claimed that the YouTuber's hair was forcibly cut, and he was then transferred to the mental health center by Thrissur District Jail officials.

Giving some time for even convicted prisoners to get their hair cut is the practice, but in the YouTuber's case, it was reportedly decided upon an attempt to cut his hair within two hours of his remand.

"His hair and beard were trimmed to such an extent that he has become unrecognisable. He had requested the officials to give him time to move an application against the cutting of his hair as he was expecting a role in a film and also due to his upcoming marriage. But they did not heed his request," the family claimed, according to PTI.

While denying the view of the jail authorities that the YouTuber willingly submitted to a haircut, the family noted that had that been true, they would not have made a report to the court, the chief minister, or senior police officials.

On Tuesday, Muhammad Shaheen Shah was arrested from Kodagu in Karnataka, where he hid following being on the run since the incident on April 19.
