The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has anticipated severe rain and thunderstorms in parts of Maharashtra, Kerala, and Konkan Goa for Tuesday, July 16. Kerela now is flooded with rain, especially in hilly areas of Kerela and northern Kerela. Incidents of flooding, uprooting of trees, and minor landslides have been reported from many parts of northern Kerala districts.

Heavy rain has caused destruction in Kerala, causing six casualties in just two days. The continuous rain has flooded low-lying areas, damaged homes, caused mudslides in mountainous regions, and made the requirement of fire services for rescue operations. Hilly areas of Wayanad district have been affected badly, with at least 29 houses being destroyed which made almost 700 move to camps, The India Meteorological Department on Thursday issued a red alert for two districts in the state Wayanad and Kannur, an orange alert in eight other districts, and a yellow alert in the remaining six districts for the day.

When extremely bad weather conditions are certainly going to disrupt travel and power and pose a risk to life, the red alert is issued. orange alert is issued as a warning of extremely bad weather with the potential of disruption in commute with road and rail closures, and interruption of power supply. Yellow indicates severely bad weather spanning several days. It also suggests that the weather could change for the worse, disrupting day-to-day activities.
The Kerala State Electricity Board reported significant damage, including over 1,000 electric posts toppled by fallen trees. Mudslides affected the 220KV feeder lines of the Lower Periyar Hydro Power project's switch yard, although operations remained unaffected. The IMD further said that moderate rainfall and wind are going over 50 kilometers per hour. Heavy rains persist across districts in the Old Mysuru region and Malnad areas, with moderate rainfall reported in Mysuru, Mandya, and Chamarajanagar districts.
