Kerala Government Faces Backlash for Last-Minute Rescheduling of Bakrid Holiday to June 7
IUML State general secretary P.M.A. Salam has demanded that the government announce an additional holiday on Saturday, instead of scrapping the previously announced holiday on Friday.

The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) State general secretary P.M.A. Salam has demanded that the Kerala government announce an additional holiday on Saturday at the last minute instead of scrapping the previously announced holiday on Friday.
Mr. Salam said Friday would be significant, since Muslims who were observing Bakrid on Saturday will be fasting on Friday, and therefore it was necessary to keep the holiday on Friday and Saturday.
IUML district president Syed Abbasali Shihab Thangal, and KPCC working president A.P. Anil Kumar also demanded that the government revoke the announced cancelation of Friday’s holiday.

Wisdom Islamic Organisation general secretary T.K. Ashraf also criticized the government’s decision saying it would put many professionals in the lurch.
Mr. Ashraf stated that the government’s decision to cancel the announced holiday on Friday at the last minute would generate feelings of insult and to disregard regarding its Muslim communities feelings about a significant day of celebration particularly when Friday is the day of significant Arafa fast.
