Karnataka News: Policeman stole Rs 10 lakh from seized amount in Karnataka, arrested
The accused confiscated the car and documents show Rs 40 lakh confiscated from the vehicle. However, Lingesh had lodged a complaint in this regard. Preliminary investigation revealed that the head constable had taken the money. After which he was arrested. Police have arrested one more person in the case. His role has not been revealed yet. A Karnataka policeman has been arrested in Bengaluru for allegedly possessing Rs 10 lakh out of Rs 50 lakh seized. The police gave this information on Sunday. The policeman has been identified as Mahendra Gowda, head constable attached to Chandra Layout police station.
According to the police, the accused committed the crime while on patrol duty. The seized money belonged to Lingesh, a real estate agent and farmer from Rampura village in Channapatna town. He told the police that as per the advice of his friend, he had brought Rs 2,000 notes to the city to be converted into smaller notes.
Police said his friend Dinesh informed him that Rs 2,000 notes would be banned and advised him to convert them into Rs 500 on 10 per cent commission. Lingesh came to Bengaluru with Rs 50 lakh in cash in his car. On the advice of people who came to exchange notes, he reached the Jannabharti campus of Bangalore University. After reaching the Janbharti complex, they went to the Chandra Layout area to exchange money. Meanwhile, Gowda, who came there, got suspicious and when he searched the car, a huge amount of cash was found in it. He threatened them that he would confiscate all the money and take Rs 10 lakh from the amount.
