Karnataka HC shocks Twitter in account blocking case, hearing on petition postponed till December 12
The petition states that in June the ministry gave a letter to Twitter stating the dire consequences of non-compliance, including initiation of criminal proceedings against Twitter's chief compliance officer, and a series of blocking orders to comply.

The Karnataka High Court has not given any relief to the microblogging site Twitter in its petition against the central government's account blocking orders. The High Court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing of Twitter's petition till December 12. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology sought time from the court to present its arguments in the matter, following which Justice Krishna S Dixit adjourned the matter to the next date.
In fact, Twitter has approached the High Court challenging the instructions issued by the government to remove tweets, accounts and URLs on its social media platform. Twitter has claimed in its petition filed in June 2022 that the Center needs to issue notices to the owners of those Twitter handles against whom account blocking orders have been issued on Twitter. According to Twitter's claim, it has also been prevented from informing these accounts about the takedown.
The petition states that in June the ministry gave a letter to Twitter stating the dire consequences of non-compliance, including initiation of criminal proceedings against Twitter's chief compliance officer, and a series of blocking orders to comply. Last chance has been given. Failure to do so will result in Twitter losing its immunity, as available under section 79(1) of the IT Act, the letter said.
