Kanpur Violence: Footage surfaces of a Rowdy Mob looting the Shop, Throws stones between tear gas shells
8 detained in view of a clash between two communities allegedly over market shutdown

A new CCTV footage related to the violence in Kanpur's Bekenganj has surfaced. In this footage of 5 minutes 39 seconds, people are seen pelting stones. Police are trying to identify the people seen in this video. Police Commissioner Vijay Meena has said that the accused will be arrested soon.
In the first 15 seconds of the video, a crowd is seen gathering at the intersection. Out of this, two boys throw stones in their hands and again go back and hide. Some other boys again throw stones in their hands towards the other side. There were already some stones lying on the road.
Police fired tear gas shells to repel the crowd. Instead of retreating, the crowd started moving forward. The boys were picking up stones and throwing them towards the police, 5 meters away from the place where the tear gas shells were falling.
In the midst of the riots, people started running away after closing their shops. It is seen in the video that there was a paan shop on the roadside, whose owner also left the shop. After completely breaking the shop, the mob threw his belongings on the road and stuffed some in his pocket.
Soon the number of miscreants crossed 100. When he started moving forward with stones, the police started following him. The miscreants started pelting stones on the shutters of the closed shops. Some of them started pelting stones at houses targeting them.
Kanpur Police Commissioner Vijay Singh Meena said that an FIR has been registered against the miscreants under sections like spreading religious hysteria, rioting, murderous assault, and spreading violence. The help of viral videos and CCTV footage is being taken to identify the miscreants.
There was an uneasy silence in Beconganj since the morning of 3rd June. Most of the shops in the area belonged to the Muslim community. which were kept closed, but some Hindu shopkeepers opened shops in the market near the Yatimkhana.
At 1:45 pm, Friday prayers were offered at the mosque near the Yatimkhana. After namaz around 2.30, people came out and started forcibly closing the open shops directly in the market.
