Kajol Responds to Comparisons with Jaya Bachchan, Labels Paparazzi Intrusion as “Scary”: Bollywood actress Kajol, who will be seen in the upcoming mythological horror film Maa, which will be released on June 27, 2025, broke her silence on everyone comparing her with veteran actress Jaya Bachchan. Kajol is all set to scare audiences on-screen and some netizens already find her intimidating in real life.
Kajol has spoken about being called scary off-screen and being compared with Jaya Bachchan over schooling the paparazzi. Speaking with Zoom, Kajol said that the paparazzi "coax you, push you" to say something. She also said that the paparazzi want a reaction to "attach some sort of a negative tagline" with the celebrity.
The 'Maa' actor told Zoom, "It's okay if you believe that I'm scary, please go watch 'Maa'... I think right now it's all really about the videos; even the paparazzi, for that matter. They're waiting for you to say something. They coax you, they push you, till you have to! Not scream back at them, but at least say, 'Listen, guys, calm down.' You know, you don't need to yell and scream to get a good picture."

She talked about the paparazzi wanting a reaction from the celebrity. "It's not about just clicking a picture or just clicking a video anymore. It's about a reaction that they want because it has a tagline attached to it, or they can attach some sort of a negative tagline", added Kajol.
Several videos of the actor have previously surfaced on social media where she is seen schooling the paparazzi over their behaviour. These videos led to her comparison with Jaya, who is quite vocal about her annoyance with paparazzi.

Many celebs, especially Jaya Bachchan, Kajol, and Alia Bhatt, have often criticised the pap culture. Recently, Rana Daggubati had also called out the pap culture in Bollywood, and he said: "I didn’t call them. I don’t like it. I don’t like them in my personal space, and I have been very vocal about it. They come outside my home, which I have respectfully told them [not to do]. And even at airports, they still turn up. I think it’s pretty annoying."
Kajol, in another interview with Bollywood Hungama, called out the paparazzi for their insensitive behaviour at funerals. She said, "I am a little conscious with paps. I think there are certain places that they shouldn’t be. Like I find it very strange when they run after actors at someone’s funeral and ask for photos. I find that odd and a little disrespectful. I find it strange that you cannot even go for lunch."
Kajol’s upcoming film Maa, directed by Vishal Furia, centers on a mother’s fierce resolve to shield her daughter from the dark forces of a cursed village. Also starring Ronit Roy, Indraneil Sengupta, and Kherin Sharma, the horror drama is set to release in theatres on June 27 under the Devgn Films banner.
