US President Joe Biden has decided to impose all the a sanctions on imports of oil from Russia in a bid to tighten the grip on the Russian economy over the attack on Ukraine. Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky had requested America and Western countries to cut Russian imports several times and America is going to take this step in this sequence.
Despite the stringent sanctions imposed on Russia's financial sectors, it continues to have cash flow through energy exports. Sources said Biden could announce a ban on imports of Russian oil on Tuesday itself. The White House said that Biden will continue to declare action against Russia for waging war against Ukraine without provocation and without cause.
Biden had expressed reluctance two weeks ago about energy restrictions in the early stages of the war, saying he did not want to see people bothered at gas pumps. Gas prices have also been rising for the past two weeks on fears of war and sanctions on the Russian energy sector.
