Mohammed Shami’s Team India Comeback: India’s stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah gave a big update on Mohammed Shami as he returned to competitive cricket last week in the Ranji Trophy. Shami was injured during the 2023 World Cup and missed all of India’s action since then.
He wasn’t included in the squad for the Border Gavaskar trophy and there were talks that he could be added to the team.
Bumrah has almost confirmed it as he said he hopes Shami will join the team soon. In the pre-match press conference before the 1st Test in Perth, Bumrah was asked about Shami and he said the team management is “keeping an eye” on him.

After an extended recovery period, the seasoned pacer recently marked his return to professional cricket, featuring for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy.
Shami started well on his comeback, taking 4 wickets in the first innings to show he’s ready for competitive cricket.
Earlier reports had suggested he could join the team mid-series, to add firepower to the Indian pace.
India landed in Australia after a 0-3 whitewash at home to New Zealand and will be looking to turn things around. Apart from the series, a spot in the World Test Championship final is also up for grabs as India will look to do well in the first Test in Perth.

India have won 2-1 in their last two Test series in Australia (2018/19 and 2020/21) and haven’t lost the Border-Gavaskar trophy since 2014/15 when a Michael Clarke led team won 2-0 in a 4 matches series at home.
Shami, who underwent surgery and rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), made a strong comeback in domestic cricket after being sidelined for almost a year.
His recent seven-wicket performance for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy has drawn significant attention, making him a key contender for India’s Test squad.
India enters the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after a disappointing 0-3 ODI series loss to New Zealand. Bumrah, however, stressed the importance of starting fresh. “We don’t carry any baggage from the previous series. Our focus is entirely on the challenge ahead,” he affirmed.
