Janta Lockdown: In a first of its kind Trader’s Association in Old Delhi announce to keep market shut for a week to combat Covid19 spread
Delhi's Iconic Chandni Chowk market will remain shut till Apr 25 amid covid spike

Delhi's Iconic Chandni Chowk market will remain shut till Apr 25 amid covid spike. Chandni Chowk Sarv Vyapar Mandal – the trader’s association announced this after a meeting on Sunday.

The Delhi Kirana Committee of Khari Baoli Market and the Chemical Merchant Association of Tilak Bazaar also announced closure of their markets till April 21.

"Today Chandni Chowk Sarv Vyapar Mandal in an emergency meeting with its members has decided to request its members to keep their establishment closed till April 25 in light of very serious condition of the virus spreading at a very large volumes. We will take a decision after assessing the condition on next Sunday," the trader’s body said in a statement.

The association post holders and members showed their foresightedness by not only taking a decision to close all business establishments in the area but by adding, “The most alarming aspect is the galloping positivity rate and shortages of hospital beds, oxygen, ventilators and medicines and other medical facilities in use of the epidemic.”

Dubbing it a “Janta Lockdown”, many citizens took to tweeter and other social media platforms to show their support of the Trader’s body’s decision. Many amongst them can be seen questioning the Government on its lacklustre approach towards combatting the spread of the Virus.

The weekend curfew, aimed at breaking the chain of spiraling coronavirus infections, was clamped at 10 pm on Friday and will continue till wee hours on Monday.

Delhi on Sunday reported 25,462 COVID-19 cases, the highest single-day spike in the national capital till date, according to data shared by the Health Department.

The city also reported 161 deaths, while the positivity rate shot up to 29.74 per cent, also the highest so far.
