Jammu and Kashmir News : For the first time after independence, lamps were lit in the Sharda Yatra temple, the temple is being rebuilt in Titwal
Ravinder Pandit, head of the Save Sharda Committee, said that a large number of local people and army personnel lit lamps, distributed sweets on Monday. For the first time after the partition of India, Diwali was celebrated under the leadership of Ejaz Khan, a member of the construction committee, in Titwal.

Titwal village of Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir was lit up with hundreds of diyas on Monday evening. The Mata Sharda Devi temple is being rebuilt in this area located on the Line of Control, where Diwali was celebrated for the first time. The ancient temple and its sanctum sanctorum are being reconstructed to resume the centuries-old pilgrimage to the Sharda Peeth temple in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Sharda Peeth is one of the oldest universities in the Indian subcontinent.
Titwal is located in Kupwara and Sharda Peeth is situated just 40 km away from this village. Sharda Peeth is situated in Sharda village situated on the bank of river Neelam. It has been a great center of education. It is counted among the 18 highly revered temples of South Asia. For the first time after the independence of the country, Diwali was celebrated by lighting diyas and candles in the Sharda Yatra temple. This temple is being rebuilt in Titwal.
