Hearing this, Special Judicial Magistrate Pranjit Hazarika asked the officer-in-charge of Hatigaon police station in Guwahati to register an FIR. The court, in its order dated December 13, had also asked the station in-charge or subordinate officer to conduct an inquiry into the controversial remarks made by the AIUDF chief and submit a final report.

A court in Assam's Kamrup has ordered the Guwahati Police to register an FIR against Lok Sabha MP Badruddin Ajmal for his controversial remarks. The petition was filed by Dulu Ahmed, vice-president of the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP).
On December 3, Ahmed had approached the court after the Hatigaon police did not register a complaint against Ajmal. The petition states that the AJP leader had approached the Guwahati Police Commissioner with the complaint on December 6, but to no avail. The Court while perusing the petition found that the Commissioner of Police and the Hatigaon Police did not pay any attention to it. The court said that perusing the complaint, it appears that there is a need for police investigation in the matter.
On December 2, All Union United Democratic Front (AIUDF) president Maulana Badruddin Ajmal had given a controversial statement saying that Hindus should follow the Muslim formula in the matter of children and marry off children at an early age. Ajmal had also commented on Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma regarding Love Jihad.
Badruddin Ajmal had apologized for his statement after the controversy escalated. He said that I am ashamed. I apologize if I have hurt anyone by saying this. It was not my intention to hurt anyone. Several others had also lodged complaints with the police at various places across the state on the MP's statement. In his complaint, Ahmed sought strict action against Ajmal as per law.
