Recently, the Empowered Group of Ministers on Essential Commodities (Empowered GoM) held a meeting under the chairmanship of Home Minister Amit Shah. In this, the price and supply situation of essential commodities were reviewed.
Inflation will be discussed in the Lok Sabha on Monday. According to information received from sources, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will answer the discussion. The opposition was continuously demanding a discussion on inflation. Due to this, there was continuous uproar in Parliament for two weeks and the House was not running smoothly. Due to the uproar and sloganeering over the discussion on the issue of inflation, more than one and a half dozen MPs of the opposition have been suspended. Opposition leaders have demanded to withdraw the suspension of the members.
On the issue of inflation, the opposition has taken an aggressive stand and has disrupted the proceedings of Parliament on other issues including price rise. According to the government, the prices of essential items of food and drink have come down. This claim has been made by the government by releasing six months' data of various common necessities including onions, edible oil, vegetable ghee, tomatoes and tea. The government said that due to its efforts, the prices of essential items of food and drink are continuously coming down.
It was told by the government that the price of palm oil has come down by 10 percent since April 25. Its price was Rs 154 a liter on 25 April, which has now come down to Rs 138 on 25 July. In this sequence, soybean oil has come down from Rs 165 (price on April 25) to Rs 160 (price on July 25). Sunflower oil down from Rs 188 (April 25 price) to Rs 183 (July 25), Mustard oil down from Rs 184 (April 25 price) to Rs 174 (July 25 price), Vanaspati Ghee Rs 159 (July 25) 25 April price) has come down to Rs 157 (25 July price).
