India won its first medal in 1972. An army veteran of the Indo-Pak war who lost his arm due to a bullet wound Murlikant Petkar won India's first Paralympic medal and first Individual gold Medal in the Heidelberg 1972 Games in the men’s 50m freestyle 3 swimming event.
In the 1984 Paralympics Bhimrao Kesarkar won a silver medal in the men’s javelin throw.
Joginder Singh Bedi won his second Paralympic medal at Stoke Mandeville & New York 1984 in the men’s javelin. He won another medal which was Bronze in the men’s discus throw the same year.
India competed in every Olympics since 1984 but never had the luck until 2004 for the next Paralympic medal. Devendra Jhajharia won A gold medal in the Javelin throw and got India a medal after 4 Olympics which is almost 20 years which also set the then-world record in the event.
Rajinder Singh Rahelu was another success story that year he won a bronze in powerlifting in the men's 56kg weight class by lifting 157.5 kg.
Girish N Gowda Got India its only medal at the 2012 London Paralympics. He won a silver medal in the men’s high jump F42 event.

Devendra Jhajharia got his 2nd gold medal in Rio 2016 Paralympics. Deepa Malik won a silver medal in the women's shot put F53 event and became the 1t women's Paralympics medalist from INDIA.
Bhavina Patel Won the silver medal for women's singles table tennis in Class 4 and became the first Indian to have a medal in table tennis in the Rio 2016 Paralympics.

Nishad Kumar silver medal, in men’s high jump T47, Tokyo 2020 he got a tie with with USA’s Dallas Wise, who also got a silver medal and 19-year-old Avani Lekhara won a historic gold in her maiden Paralympics, shooting a new Paralympic. Devendra Jhajharia won his third Paralympic medal with a silver in the men's javelin throw F46 class in Tokyo and Sundar Singh Gurjar got the bronze and shared the podium with Devendra Jhajharia.
Yogesh Kathuniya won a silver medal in men's discus throw F56, Tokyo 2020. Sumit Antil got a gold medal in men's javelin throw F64 which broke the world record. Singhraj Adhana won a bronze medal in men's 10m air pistol shooting SH1. Mariyappan Thangavelu won Silver Medal in men's high jump T42 failing to retain his gold. Sharad Kumar won the Bronze Medal for men's high jump T42.
