Indians binge-watching, preferring Anime over other animation types, why?

There were still fans and a kids channel Cartoon Network to introduce Anime to us. Many would remember a show called ‘Dragon Ball Z’ that used to be telecasted on prime time.

New Delhi: Recently, a popular anime “Naruto” was dubbed in Hindi and other Indian languages, which clearly showed how this form of animation is gaining momentum across all cultures.

Conversations on Anime are in trends today and ‘Naruto’, ‘Attack on Titans’ and ‘Death Note’ are on top of the list. However, that would be entirely wrong to say that Anime were not known or the topic emerged just recently.

There were still fans and a kids channel Cartoon Network to introduce Anime to us. Many would remember a show called ‘Dragon Ball Z’ that used to be telecasted on prime time. It was popular among now-millenials to buy stickers of Goku, a character from the show with amazing powers, when they were kids.

But we percieved the show as “cartoon” and did not realise that the genre was different. The stigma continued until just now.

Another show that we remember to watch on Cartoon Network was Naruto but that was not that popular too as it carried out with the English dub.

But there is a kind of surge and boom, everyone is talking about Anime and wearing its merchandise. In India, there are at least 83% people who are preferring this genre of entertainment across the animate content, reported the Financial Express while referring to a survey by JetSynthesys.

Another example that India is loving the Japanese Anime is the box office collection of Jujutsu Kaisen 0; it minted 1.8 crore on Day 1. It was quite surreal to watch an Anime film in Indian theatres but it got real.

Having sold over 50,000 tickets in pre-sales, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 hit theatres on June 30 last year. Directed by Sunghoo Park, were released on over 200 screens and we should definitely give it to Indian fans who waited nearly 10 months for its release since the US premiere.
