Indian Navy Saves Pakistani Sailor Near Oman Coast: Humanitarian Mission Amid Tensions

Indian Navy Saves Pakistani Sailor Near Oman Coast: An Indian Navy ship functioning in the Central Arabian Sea on Friday gave emergency life-saving medical assistance to a Pakistani crew member of a fishing vessel off the Oman coast, the Navy said on Sunday.

INS Trikand, a mission-deployed stealth frigate of the Indian Navy, was probably called on that day after distress calls were intercepted by Iranian dhow Al Omeedi operating southeast at approximately 350 nautical miles off the Oman coast.

According to the Navy release, just after verifying this, it was found that the member of the crew was injured in the fingers severely while working on engine duty and was in critical condition; the crew member was moved to another dhow, FV Abdul Rehman Hanzia, which was heading toward Iran.

"Trikand immediately altered her course to provide medical assistance to the injured crew member. The crew of FV Abdul Rehman Hanzia consisted of 11 Pakistani (nine Baloch and two Sindhi) and five Iranian personnel. The injured Pakistani (Baloch) national had suffered multiple fractures and severe hand injuries, resulting in heavy blood loss," the Navy said.

The medical officer from INS Trikand went aboard, supported by a team of MARCOS (Marine Commandos) and boarders from the ship, to give assistance, it said.

After local anesthesia was given, the ship's medical team proceeded to suture and splint the injured fingers, completing a surgical procedure that lasted over three hours, it said.

"Additionally, medical supplies, including antibiotics, were provided to the vessel to ensure the crew's well-being until they reached Iran. The entire crew expressed their deep gratitude to the Indian Navy for the timely assistance in saving their crewmate's life," the Navy said.
