Indian Navy receives 5.62 lakh applications under Agneepath scheme
The plan was unveiled on June 14, which was followed by violent protests against it in several states for almost a week and several opposition parties demanding its withdrawal.

Explaining the Navy's recruitment process, a Defense Ministry spokesperson tweeted, "Registration Update: A total of 5,62,818 candidates have registered till 9 AM on July 27."
Under the Agneepath scheme, youth in the age group of 17-and-a-half to 21 years will be inducted into the army for a four-year term, while 25 per cent of them will be subsequently selected for regular service. These youths who are recruited in the army will be called 'Agniveers'.
On June 16, the government had increased the maximum age limit for recruitment under this scheme from 21 to 23 years for the year 2022. Apart from this, steps like giving priority to post-retirement Agniveers in the jobs of central paramilitary forces and public sector defense undertakings were announced.
