Indian Navy Intercepts Hijacked Iranian Vessel: As the pirates on board the hijacked Iranian vessel 'AI Kambar 786' surrendered, 23 Pakistani nationals were rescued by the Indian Navy
.An official statement from the Navy said "intense coercive tactical measures" were used to rescue the ship and crew.
During the evening of March 28, the Navy received input about a possible pirate incident aboard the Iranian fishing vessel 'Al Kambar 786'.
As per an official statement shared by the Navy's spokesperson, naval specialists are sanitizing and inspecting the fishing vessel to prepare it for resuming normal fishing activities.
At the time of the incident, the fishing vessel was 90 nautical miles south-west of Socotra when nine armed pirates boarded it. The hijacked FV has been intercepted on March 29. A Navy statement said that the operation is currently underway to rescue the hijacked FV and its crew.
According to the report, nine armed pirates boarded the fishing vessel approximately 90 nm southwest of Socotra. Socotra Archipelago is in the northwest Indian Ocean near the Gulf of Aden. The Indian Navy said it remains committed to ensuring maritime security in the region and the safety of seafarers, regardless of nationality.
Due to increased attacks on merchant ships near the Gulf of Aden, the Indian Navy has increased its vigilance in recent months.
After being hijacked by pirates, the Indian Navy rescued the Liberian-flagged ship MV Lila Norfolk off the coast of Somalia on January 5.
A safer and more secure Indian Ocean Region will be ensured by the Indian Navy, Admiral R Hari Kumar said on March 23 as he highlighted the anti-piracy and maritime security operations undertaken by the navy under Operation Sankalp during the preceding 100 days.
During 'Op Sankalp', the Navy conducted anti-piracy, anti-missile, and anti-drone operations; 110 lives were saved, 45 Indians and 65 foreigners.
