Indian Economy: Country on the path of progress in infrastructure, government spent 13.60 lakh crores on 1526 projects

In the last few years, a large number of infrastructure projects have been taken up in the country. In the data released by the government, it has been found that work is going on on 1526 projects with an investment of more than Rs 150 crore. However, due to Corona and other reasons, the cost of infrastructure projects (more than 150 crores) may increase from Rs 21,26,460 crores to Rs 25,61,823 crores.

According to the August 2022 report by the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation, out of 1526 infrastructure projects costing Rs 150 crore or more in the country, 393 have increased costs, while 647 projects running late.

The report further states that the original cost to complete these 1526 projects was Rs 21,26,460 crore, but now it is estimated to increase to Rs 25,91,823 crore. This means that the cost of this project may increase by 21.88 percent or Rs 4,65,362 crore as compared to earlier.

The report said that delays in land acquisition, delay in obtaining forest and environment department clearances and lack of infrastructure are the main reasons for the delay in infrastructure projects. Apart from this, problems related to financing of the project, changes in the project, late receipt of construction equipment and legal issues have been reported. It has also been said in the report that Corona is also a big reason behind the delay.
