Indian Citizenship: 2.25 lakh people left Indian citizenship in 2022, Foreign Minister gave information in Rajya Sabha

Since 2011, more than 16 lakh Indians have given up their Indian citizenship. The Central Government gave this information to the Rajya Sabha on Thursday citing government figures. During this, he presented every year's figure of Indians giving up citizenship in a systematic manner.
The least number of Indians gave up citizenship in 2020 Over 1.6 million Indians have renounced their Indian citizenship since 2011, including 2,25,620 last year, which was the highest during the period, while 2020 is the highest since 2011, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said in a written reply to a question. The low was 85,256.
He informed that the number of Indians who renounced Indian citizenship in the year 2015 was 1,31,489, while in 2016, 1,41,603 people renounced their citizenship and in 2017, 1,33,049 people renounced their citizenship. According to him, this number was 1,34,561 in 2018, while 1,44,017 in 2019, 85,256 in 2020 and 1,63,370 Indians in 2021 had given up their citizenship.
