India’s legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has drawn attention towards a serious shortcoming that got reflected during the second T20 against Sri Lanka. According to him, there is one area where India needs to focus on.
Though India defeated Sri Lanka conclusively in all three T20 matches yet Gavaskar feels that this is one area that cannot be overlooked at all.
While talking to Star Sports in a discussion on India’s performance in T20 matches against Sri Lanka, Gavaskar said, “It is an issue that India cannot afford to sweep under the carpet. They have to worry about the death-over bowlers -- who should be bowling the first 10 and the last eight overs.”
He said that death bowler is an important issue that India needs to think about.
Gavaskar added that it is something that India cannot afford to have it every time. He said, "It's not a sign of worry but it is something they have got to look at because they can't afford to have it regularly. One match, it happens -- that is the nature of the format.”
Talking about the performance of Sri Lankan batsman, Gavaskar said, “There might be partnerships in the last five-six overs where you will get 80-90 runs like we saw today. (Dasun) Shanaka was magnificent today. Even (Pathum) Nissanka...look at that shot against Bumrah, of all the people. It isn't easy to hit against Bumrah," Gavaskar said.
