India ranks 107th out of 121 countries on Global Hunger Index, More Backward Than Pakistan in Terms Of Hunger
The Modi Govt however has rejected India’s Global Hunger Index ranking and claimed poor ranking due to Navratri Fasting

India has ranked 107th out of 121 countries on Global Hunger Index, and with this ranking is being stated as more Backward Than Pakistan in Terms Of Hunger. India slipped 6 places in hunger to 107th place, making nations like Sri Lanka-Pakistan appear better. Giving response to this ranking, however, India called the Hunger Index a spoiler for the image, saying the method of measuring hunger is wrong
Reports are released every year on the situation of starvation in countries around the world. It has been named the Global Hunger Index. These reports are released jointly by Germany's non-governmental organization 'Welt Hunger Hilf and Ireland's non-governmental organization 'Concern Worldwide. The main objective of these two organizations is to find out about poverty and hunger on 4 scales in different countries around the world.
India ranks 107th out of 121 countries. India is also included in 21 countries where the problem of hunger is considered very serious. India is 25 places below Nepal and 7 places below Pakistan. India's GHI score is 29.1, which falls in the severe category.
On the hunger index rating, Congress Leader P Chidambaram criticized the government's response by saying that the Modi Government is In Denial Mode.
How is the Global Hunger Index Calculated?
GHI is prepared by a German NGO Welthungerhilfe that is funded by the Bill Gates foundation, UNO, the German govt, etc.
They use 4 parameters to measure hunger.
1. Undernourishment (PUN)
2. Wasting (CWA)
3. Stunting (CST)
4. Child mortality (CM)
