India-Pakistan DGMO Talks Conclude Amid Ongoing Ceasefire Efforts
As per former External Affairs Minister S. Jai Shankar, as of Saturday (May 10, 2025), India and Pakistan have agreed on an understanding in which both sides will stop initiating military action and cease all firing.

India-Pakistan DGMO Talks: After three days of fierce military clash action, according to Former External Affairs Minister S. Jai Shankar, as of Saturday (May 10, 2025), India and Pakistan have agreed on an understanding in which both sides will stop initiating military action and cease all firing.
Official sources stated that the decision to halt military actions was approved bilaterally between India and Pakistan, and that this 'understanding' will not affect some of the recent hostile actions that India conducted in order to hold Pakistan accountable after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22.
It was indicated that in some places on the International Boundary in Jammu, cross-border firing was occurring and, at various parts of the city of Srinagar, explosions were reported to have occurred.

“What the hell just happened to the ceasefire? Explosions heard across Srinagar,” Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abullah said in a post on X. “This is no ceasefire. The air defence units in the middle of Srinagar just opened up,” he added in another post.
At a late night brief press interview, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri indicated that Pakistan exhibited some "repeated violations" of the understanding and stated that the Indian armed forces were given strict instructions to "deal strongly" with this situation.
“We call upon Pakistan to take appropriate steps to address these violations and deal with the situation with seriousness and responsibility,” said Mr. Misri who described these violations as a “breach of the understanding”.
Earlier, Mr. Jaishankar said, “India and Pakistan have today worked out an understanding on stoppage of firing and military action. India has consistently maintained a firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. It will continue to do so.”
Following up to the entry call was an official briefing from Mr. Misri, who stated that the Pakistani side reached out to the Indian side to discuss the prospect of stopping the firing on the afternoon of the Saturday in regard to the understanding.
“The Director-General of Military Operations of Pakistan called the Director-General of Military Operations of India at 1535 hours [3.35 p.m. IST]. It was agreed between them that both sides would stop all firing and military action on land and in the air and sea with effect from 1700 hours [5 p.m.] today. Instructions have been given on both sides to give effect to the understanding,” Mr. Misri said.
In an interview with The Hindu, officials indicated that it is an announcement which is of a trial nature as it issues against the backdrop of a very active phase of hostility, and the real question is whether or not the ceasefire has the potential to hold on the ground.
“The Director-Generals of Military Operations will talk again on the 12th of May at 1200 hours,” Mr. Misri said, indicating that the two sides will review the pause during the meeting on Monday.
A senior official from the External Affairs Ministry clarified that “there is no pre-condition” or “post condition” to cease fire and military operations.
“This understanding is not going to affect any of the decisions that we have taken against Pakistan in the past few weeks after the Pahalgam terror attack, and most importantly, our stance on terrorism remains uncompromised by Saturday’s bilateral understanding,” said the official, he reiterated that India has determined that any future act of terror will constitute an act of war, and therefore will be treated as war.

“The message is clear this time that a terror attack like Pahalgam will not go unpunished in future,” the official said.
India "suspended" the Indus Waters Treaty on April 23 after the Pahalgam assault. In addition, India repealed 14 visas issued to Pakistanis of various types, leaving only diplomatic and long-term visas (LTV). In addition to that, India froze imports from Pakistan and terminated postal linkages with that country.
“These slew of measures, including the suspension of the Kartarpur Corridor remain in place,” the official said.
In addition, Mr. Misri accused Pakistan of conducting a disinformation campaign against India, attempting to incite communal discord in India against Sikhs by targeting Sikh holy sites in Pakistan and in Punjab and Jammu.
Since the commencement of Operation Sindoor on May 7, a few international actors have contacted India and Pakistan in requesting de-escalation; however, India has publicly maintained the position that it had not cut diplomatic ties with Pakistan since both nations were still hosting diplomatic missions for each other, despite the increase in military engagement between the two nations.
