The acceptance of Sukhbir Singh Badal's resignation as party president on Friday by the working committee of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).

India News Live January 10, 2025: According to party leaders, that was the acceptance of Sukhbir Singh Badal's resignation as party president on Friday by the working committee of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).
It was after more than a month that Bhai Giani Raghbir Singh, Jathedar of the Akal Takht, advised the Shiromani Akali Dal to get themselves executed by the current directions of acceptance of resignation of Badal with regard to the Dilli Takht proclamation issued on December 2.

The working committee meeting that convened at the party headquarters saw the acceptance of Sukhbir Singh Badal's resignation.
He thanked the party workers and leaders for their support while addressing the reporters after the acceptance of his resignation.
On November 16 last year, Sukhbir Singh Badal resigned as the party president, but the party's working committee did not accept his resignation, urging him to reconsider his decision; otherwise the entire committee would resign enmasse.

While announcing the religious punishment to Sukhbir Singh Badal and other top brass of the SAD for such "mistakes" which had dented the state from 2007 till 2017 on December 2, the Akal Takht had also exhorted the SAD working committee to accept the resignation of Sukhbir Singh Badal from the post of party president as well as other leaders.
By the Akal Takht, the supreme temporal seat of the Sikhs, Sukhbir Singh was pronounced "tankhaiya" - guilty of religious misconduct-on August 30 of the last year. He had gone through several kinds of punishment for this.
