India expressed concern over the death of civilians in Ukraine
Speaking at the UN Security Council briefing on Ukraine, Tirumurti said it is important that humanitarian measures are always guided by the principles of humanity, neutrality, fairness and independence. Civilians have lost their lives because of the conflict. Thousands of people have been displaced internally and more than three million refugees have moved to neighboring countries. The humanitarian situation has worsened, especially where the fighting is going on." He said that India has ensured the safe return of about 22500 Indians from Ukraine.
The Permanent Representative of India said, “We have also helped 18 other countries in this process (of evacuation). We commend the authorities of Ukraine and its neighboring countries for facilitating them in ensuring the safe return of people." Tirumurti said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for an immediate ceasefire and emphasized that there is no alternative but through dialogue and diplomacy. He said, “We support the United Nations Charter, international law and the sovereignty of nations.
