Team India on Wednesday broke their 12-match losing streak against world number one Australia with a 4-3 win in the third match of the five-match series at the Met Stadium. Also, this was the 13th victory of the Indian hockey team over Australia in 65 matches, which is the first win after 6 years i.e. after 2016.

After losing both the opening matches of the series, India have retained themselves in the series by winning the third match. Mandeep Singh was instrumental in this victory for India, who assisted Akashdeep Singh to score the winning score for India. While other goals were scored by Harmanpreet Singh (12th minute), Abhishek (47th minute) and Shamsher Singh (57th minute). While Jack Welch (25th minute), Aran Zalewski (32nd minute) and Nathan Efraims (59th minute) contributed to the goal for Australia. The Indian team was defeated by the Kangaroos 5–4 in the first match and 7–4 in the second match. This match was very important for the Indian team to stay in the five-match series.
The series is now at 2-1 and the morale of the Indian team will definitely be high after this win. India would now like to win the next match and equalize in the series. After the resounding victory in this match, India coach Graham Reid said, "It was a better defensive effort today. We came back well on a number of occasions." However, he still cautioned the players against giving too many chances to their opponents. "While we had a good penalty corner conversion rate, we probably gave them too many chances and put a little too much trust in our goalkeeper.
