India Agrees to Substantial Tariff Reductions Ahead of April 2 ‘Liberation Day’ Deadline
Donald Trump on Wednesday proposes imposing reciprocal tariffs against India and other countries having declared April 2 "Liberation Day."

India Agrees to Substantial Tariff Reductions: US President Donald Trump stated that India has agreed to "substantially" decrease tariffs on US products before midnight of April 2, when reciprocal tariff measures will be put into place. This Trump calls 'Liberation Day' concerning imports and exports.
"A lot of them will drop their tariffs because they have been unfair on the US. The European Union has already dropped their tariffs to 2.5%. I heard a while ago that India will also be dropping its tariffs substantially," the US President, who has previously dubbed India the "tariff king", said.

Earlier today, the White House indicated that India placed 100% tariffs on American agricultural products.
"Unfortunately, these countries have been ripping off our nation for far too long, and they've made, I think, their disdain for American workers quite clear," White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Monday.
Trump has accused India endlessly of being a "big abuser" of trade relations, and it was during an official visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the US in February that he announced his intention of putting reciprocal tariffs.
As of now, there are no signals suggesting India would win an exception from adopting the sweeping US reciprocal tariffs which are likely to devastate India's exports of agriculture and pharmaceutical goods.

Here are the justifications maintained in the translation; India, however, seems cheerful over getting some rebate from reciprocal tariffs and not to end up in the same boat as China, Mexico, and Canada- all the countries having received the brunt of Trump's tariff war.
