Independence Day 2022: Made in India cannon salute for the first time at Red Fort

India is celebrating its 75th Independence Day. At the same time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted the tricolor from the Red Fort for the 9th consecutive time. In his address to the nation, PM Modi said that self-reliant India, it becomes the responsibility of every citizen, of every government, of every unit of society. This is not a government agenda. This is a mass movement of the society, which we have to take forward.
PM Modi said that today when we heard this voice, for which the ears yearned. He said that after 75 years, the Made in India cannon has done the task of saluting the flag from the Red Fort. PM Modi said that we should be proud of our heritage. When we will connect with our earth. Only then will you fly high. When we fly high, we will be able to give solutions to the world too.
On the occasion of Independence Day, on 15 August 2022, the first indigenous Howitzer artillery salute was given from the Red Fort. These guns are jointly made by DRDO's Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE), Tata Advanced Systems Limited, Mahindra Defense Naval System and Bharat Forge Limited. The name of this howitzer gun is Advanced Towed Artillery Gun (ATAGS). It is of 155 mm/52 caliber.
The Indian Army currently has 7 of this 155 mm gun. Its first test was done in the year 2016. 40 guns have been ordered. Apart from this, 150 more cannons will be made. It requires 6 to 8 people to run it. It fires 3 rounds in 15 seconds in burst mode, 15 rounds in 3 minutes in intense and 60 rounds in 60 minutes. Its firing range is 48 km. But efforts are being made to increase it to 52.
