In Nainital, Uttarakhand, a 'drunk' government official runs a car over a girl, her sister, and a friend, killing them
A police officer stated that a medical examination revealed that the accused, Bhupendra Singh, was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

Nainital, Uttarakhand: A 14-year-old girl was killed when Gnayan Bhupender Singh ran over her and her sister and friend, aged 17 and 15, respectively, while returning from a fair, police in Uttarakhand's Nainital District said on Wednesday.

“The accused, Bhupendra Singh, Assistant Block Development Officer of Kotabagh, was apprehended while attempting to flee,” news agency PTI quoted as saying Ramesh Chandra Pant, stated that the Kotabagh police outpost's in-charge confirmed that Bhupendra Singh drove under the influence of alcohol.
The accident happened on their way back from a fair.
According to the latest reports, the initial medical treatment was given in the Community Health Centre, Kotabagh, but the 14-year-old was referred to the higher institution after she was stated dead there.
Her sister and friend suffered severe injuries and are being treated at Sai Hospital in Haldwani, he added.

Legal Punishment for Drunk Driving in India
Drunk driving is dealt with under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Such a crime may result in the convicted person being sentenced to imprisonment for six months or being fined ₹10,000 or both.
What amounts to a drunk driving crime?
Section 185(a) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, prescribes punishments for operating the vehicle while drunk, if the level of alcohol in the driver's body is more than 30 mg. of alcohol per 100 ml of the blood value.
Also guilty of the above Section is a person found unable to control the vehicle while under the influence of drugs.
