‘I’m Become Meme’: Elon Musk made serious smoke when he had a totally unexpected appearance at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington, D.C., on Thursday. Well, the mic to him shined bright when the Tesla and SpaceX CEO arrived with Newsmax host Rob Schmitt. All right: He went viral right away as Musk caused a ruckus when he wielded a strange but symbolic gold-plated chainsaw. The odd-looking chainsaw is a gift from Argentine President Javier Milei-a symbol showing Musks position against government expenditure, which perfectly resonates with CPAC's conservative audience.
The gold-plated chainsaw was a really nice prop for the occasion. The idea was introduced by Milei and was used as a symbol for cutting wasteful costs of government-it's what Musk has been advocating publicly. The use of the chainsaw indicates, on his part, that he dreams of chopping up such governmental inefficiencies and meets with the approval of conservatism in the doctrine of government retrenchment and downsizing.

.@ElonMusk at #CPAC2025: "I am become meme. Yeah. Pretty much. I'm jus -- I'm living the meme. I'm just like, living the dream And there's living the meme, and it's pretty much what's happening. Reference to his political orientation and recent political activism was made by Musk in the event. He referred to the conversion of himself to being politically from middle-of-the-road leaning to being an open financial supporter of President Donald Trump. The transformation of Musk's political alignment has aroused immense curiosity, particularly considering the earlier more neutral public persona. He talked freely about his thoughts and how his own views have evolved in recent years, as well as about his own worries regarding policy and regulation.
Musk revealed in the meeting his private fears regarding the disposition of his being a public figure. As the head of two of the world's most powerful corporations, both elevated his profile in the eyes of public admiration or disdain. Apart from his concerns regarding security, Musk showed a great interest in visiting the U.S. gold depository in Fort Knox, Kentucky. His question about U.S. gold reserves added some more mystery to his appearance at CPAC, suggesting that not even an international business man in technology and space would have interests confined to finance and wealth management.
One of the more memorable moments of Musk's appearance came when he acknowledged his status as an internet phenomenon. Musk, ever the internet icon, humorously declared, “I am become meme. Yeah. Pretty much. I’m just—I’m living the meme. I’m just like, living the dream. And there's being out there in existence as the meme, and it's basically what's happening." I mean, Doge started out as a meme. Think about it. And now, it’s real. Isn’t that crazy? But it’s cool,” he said.

Dogecoin, which started out as a meme money, turned into actual virtual currency, owing to Musk's public endorsements. Musk said something about the peculiarity of how what used to be an inside joke investment now became mainstream and even gained actual-world value. It also refers to his unorthodox link to the world of the internet that still powers and defines his image.
Musk's remarks immediately went viral on all social media platforms, with numerous individuals praising his irreverent and witty attitude. His sense of humor and candor about his public persona as a "meme" was cheered by fans. Even a social media user shared a witty comment that his granddaughter referred to Musk as "The Penguin" because of the way he nods his head, adding to the internet's fascination with his quirks. This just goes to show how deeply fascinated the public is by Musk's eccentricities and how his personality gels with that of online meme culture.
One of the most memorable moments of the evening was when Schmitt asked Musk what it felt like to "be inside the mind of a genius." Musk's reply-the same cryptic and humorous: "My mind is a storm, so. it's a storm." That self-deprecating, pithy observation encapsulated Musk's often muddled approach to innovation and solution-finding. It highlighted his acceptance of complication, randomness, and imagination-all of which mark his business and technological approach.
