IIM Calcutta Rape Allegation Twist: Student’s Father Denies Claim, Cites Accident
The girl accused a student of MBA program in IIM-Calcutta of raping her in a hostel meant to accommodate boys. Her father however had told her that she fell off an auto-rickshaw.

IIM Calcutta Rape Allegation Twist: An MBA second year student IIM Calcutta has been arrested when a woman complaint to the police that she was raped in a boys hostel of the prestigious institution. Things took a turn however because later on the father to the woman joined in and said there was no sexual assault and that his daughter was okay and resting.
The woman who is a psychological counsellor in profession came to the Haridevpur police station on Friday evening and submitted a hand written complaint. She claimed that she was given pizza and water to eat during lunch and she did not feel well shortly after eating. The complainant alleged that she was in load and when she came back to senses, she had been raped and tortured.
After receiving a complaint a case (FIR) under section 64 (rape), and 123 (administering drugs or poison) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered against the accused at Kolkata Police, and the accused was arrested as he was a native of Karnataka.

The case however took a turn on Saturday afternoon. The father of the woman appeared on the media disclaiming all the accusations committed by his daughter. He said that nobody had acted in-proper with her, sexual assault had not occurred and she was not familiar with the student who was arrested. “She is completely fine and is sleeping now,” he said.
He even mentioned that he got a call approximately around 9.34 pm one day on Friday that his daughter had fallen off an auto-rickshaw and had passed out. He claimed that he met her at neurology department of SSKM Hospital where she was taken by the police.
In spite of these allegations, Kolkata Police kept stating that the FIR was done upon a written complaint made by the woman.
One of the police officials stated that the woman had first approached Thakurpukur police station to report the case but as the IIM Calcutta campus is located in the territory of Haridevpur, she was taken to the former by officer, including a woman officer. The source said that she filed the handwritten complaint herself.
Now, the police have initiated an investigation into the official statement made by the father, who differed with the official testimonies by the survivor.
The accused was on the other hand brought to Alipore court on Friday, and remanded to seven days in police custody.

WHAT KOLKATA POLICE SAID IN COURT
During the proceedings before the court, Kolkata Police said that on July 11, 2025, at 11.45 am and 8.35 pm, a second-year MBA student called the complainant to his hostel room, claiming that he needed to talk to seek a psychological counseling.
Police informed the court that the accused gave the complainant lunch and water which she consumed but after consuming the same, the complainant became dizzy. The accused was accused of doing forced sexual intercourse with a complainant without her intention.
The police in its submission said the accused was arrested in the hostel at about 12.15 am on July 12. The arrest was founded on the information about credible sources and identification of it.
The police also avowed that the statement of the accused during the interrocation was noted down and as per the same, the clothes, which the accused was wearing on and his cell phone, were obtained.
The concerned investigating officers also detailed to the court that they had made amendment to the sections on which the case was registered and the reasons being the material and facts disclosed subsequently. The new charges brought in are Section 64, 123, Other Sections include 127 (2) (wrongful confinement) 115 (2) (voluntarily causing hurt) and 76 (assault) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
