The Lok Sabha member from Thiruvananthapuram said that he would fully implement the 'Udaipur Navsankalp' agreed upon in the 'Chintan Shivir' held a few months ago.
Asked what his plans are for the Congress if he becomes the president, 66-year-old Tharoor said, "I think the first step would be to hold elections to the Congress Working Committee so that internal democracy can spread in the party."
He said, 'I will fully implement the Congress constitution. Election of working committee and constitution of parliamentary board are necessary under the constitution. I will fully implement Udaipur Navsankalp.
The Navsankalp, which was released by the Congress at the Udaipur Chintan Shivir, promised a number of reforms, including 'one family, one ticket', large-scale representation of leaders below 50 years of age in the organisation.
According to Tharoor, he has mentioned in his manifesto that the Congress will have to give real power to the presidents of state Congress committees, district committees, block committees and booth committees so that the party can be empowered in the states.
Congress Presidential candidate says, 'I want that the elected status of the delegates should be respected and they should be included in the process of deliberation, proper forum should be provided.'
He also said that the Congress will have to give a concrete alternative to the 'centralized powers' of the BJP.
Shashi Tharoor said, "I have been a big fan of the 2014 UPA slogan 'Main Nahi Hum'. Revamping the organization, empowering grassroots leaders and involving workers in its success will not only reduce the burden on the new president, it will also help in creating a strong leadership at the state level.
Voting for the post of Congress President is to be held on October 17 and counting of votes will take place on October 19. Mallikarjun Kharge and Tharoor are the candidates. Kharge's claim is considered strong.
