According to news reports, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has issued a notice to Amazon Prime for glamourizing sex and violence in its shows.
The Ministry has flung into action after a Member of Parliament from Maharashtra, Ram Kadam, lodged a complaint against the makers and actors of the web series Tandav.
Tandav is a web series shown on Amazon Prime Video. It started on January 15 and has been directed by Ali Abbas Zafar who has been directed movies like Sultan, Tiger Zinda Hai, and Bharat.
Actor Saif Ali Khan is playing the character of Samar Pratap Singh, a powerful politician who is the son of a three-time Prime Minister Devki Nandan Singh.
Kadam in his complaint has alleged that the scenes in the series have insulted the sentiments of Hindu religions as Hindu God and Goddesses have been insulted.
Referring to a scene in the series, he said that Lord Shiva was mocked which hurts the feelings of Hindus and it should be deleted.
Kadam tweeted, “Why is it becoming a trend amongst films and web series makers to demean Hindu gods? The latest culprit seems to be the series #Tandav. #SaifAliKhan again part of a film or series which attempts to target Hindu deities. Director Ali Abbas Zafar needs to remove that scene which mocks.”
On January 16, another BJP MP Manoj Kotak wrote to I&B Minister Prakash Javadekar and demanded that OTT platforms should be regulated as they are full of sex, violence, drugs, abuse, and hate. Kotak said that they often hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus.
