How long can oxygen support bear the burden of a woman's sacrifice in a household?

“Nil Battey Sannata,” an internationally released as ‘The New Classmate’, is a 2015 Indian Hindi-language comedy-drama film directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, depicts the reality of women's sacrifices in order to feed and fulfil her family responsibilities, and especially a mother.

A mother never takes a vacation in a patriarchal society like ours. She is there with all of us in almost every need we have, and she still takes care of herself. The primary goal of a woman's life is to 'sacrifice' for the sake of her loved ones.

However, this 'sacrificial' tradition has been exalted all too much nowadays. The internet is flooded with images and videos depicting the same, which have been posted by netizens who applaud the woman for what she does amid the difficulties she faces and for keeping a brave face.

Moreover, a photo that has been circulating on Twitter since last night is an alarming example of this. A woman is seen in the video preparing food for her family while on oxygen.

While making chapatis, the woman has an oxygen concentrator next to her. And, the caption reads: "Unconditional love= *MOTHER* She is never off duty."

Take a quick look at the Twitter post here.

It's unclear who first posted the picture, but it made its way into the microblogging site. It went viral for obvious reasons. Furthermore, the photo sparked outrage on the internet. The vast majority of internet users were dissatisfied with what is reflected.

"Could this unconditional affection clich which causes women not to rest stop soon," Chinmayi Sripaada, a popular singer, said in response to the post.

"This is not passion," said another user, Tamil filmmaker Naveen Mohamedali. "This is a kind of slavery disguised as a social structure."

"Whoever stood and took this photo instead of preventing her from working in the kitchen in this condition is the first immediate suspect, in this case, society," says journalist and author Gautam Mengle.

There were a lot of other people who were enraged by the viral picture. Some even speculated that it was staged or photoshopped.

Indeed, this depiction will cause us to reflect and raise difficult questions about how we glorify our family's women for doing almost everything for us.
