Home Minister Amit Shah introduced Criminal Procedure Identification Bill in Rajya Sabha

Union Home Minister Amit Shah introduced the Criminal Procedure (Identification) Bill 2022 in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. Introducing the bill in the Upper House, Amit Shah said that this bill has been brought with the aim of making crime investigation more efficient and improving the conviction rate. This is an important bill, which aims to strengthen the evidence for conviction by modifying the 100-year-old law according to the prevailing circumstances.

The Home Minister said that in a society living according to the law, along with controlling crime, the conviction of criminals is also necessary. The faith of the common people in the law cannot be strengthened without the conviction of the criminals. The purpose of this bill is to strengthen the capacity of the police and forensic team along with providing scientific evidence to the prosecuting agencies. There is no threat to the privacy of the citizens from this bill.

Union Home Secretary Amit Shah said that our law was "childish" (meaning nothing) in terms of strictness compared to the rest of the world. Countries like South Africa, Great Britain, Australia, Canada and the United States have very strict laws. .This is why the conviction rate of criminals in these countries is also better. We discussed it with the states and implemented it, incorporating all the proposals. This bill was presented after studying the regulations of other countries in the world.

Union Home Secretary Amit Shah further said that modern technology should be used in crime investigations. This bill was prepared incorporating several of these aspects. It should be known that in this bill it was said that it allows the collection of various types of details of the accused. This includes samples of fingerprints, iris and handwriting, etc.
