Before the oath-taking ceremony, Governor C P Radhakrishnan extended a formal invitation to Hemant Soren to form the new government, which marked a significant moment in the wake of the resignation of his predecessor, Champai Soren, as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand.

Champai's resignation followed the election of Hemant Soren as their leader by 45 MLAs. Hemant's release from jail after being granted bail by the Jharkhand High Court on June 28, with the court noting "reasons to believe that he was not guilty" of money laundering allegations related to a land plot in Ranchi, signifies a significant development.
