Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Chinglepet are the districts where a red alert has been issued, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall of more than 20 cm in 24 hours.
Up to 17 cm of rain has flooded the capital Chennai as a cyclonic storm brought heavy rainfall along the coasts. Waterlogging has led to traffic jams, making it difficult for commuters to reach home due to heavy rains.
