Heavy rains in Tamil Nadu cause 3 deaths, parts of Chennai waterlogged

In view of heavy rains in the state, a red alert has been issued for four districts of Tamil Nadu. State Revenue and Disaster Management Minister KKSSR Ramachandran said three people were killed in rain-related lightning strikes in Tamil Nadu today following heavy torrential rains in the state. Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Chinglepet are the districts where a red alert has been issued, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall of more than 20 cm in 24 hours.

Up to 17 cm of rain has flooded the capital Chennai as a cyclonic storm brought heavy rainfall along the coasts. Waterlogging has led to traffic jams, making it difficult for commuters to reach home due to heavy rains.
