Heavy Rains Batter Mumbai for Third Day: Maharashtra’s Mumbai suffered from heavy rains, which led to severe waterlogging in several parts of the city, the financial capital bringing the traffic movement to a standstill.

According to reports, many of the roads have been closed and traffic has been drawn away on other routes because of the severe rain which continued for three days and increased the waterlogging situation.

Andheri subway is now temporarily shut down for vehicles because of waterlogging, and traffic has been drawn away to S V Road, a traffic police official said.

According to the officials, local trains cover most of the routes, Local trains are operating normally, but traffic movement has been notably affected.

Traffic on the road near Sheetal Cinema and Kale Marg, both in the Kurla area, was diverted due to waterlogging.

Same as traffic on the Aarey route in Goregaon East has been drawn away via Seepz-Marol Maroshi-JVLR in both directions, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials said.

A busy traffic junction, Chembur Link Road, which connects South Mumbai to Thane, as per reports had nearly one-and-a-half feet of water gathered on the roads because of the consistent downpour.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said, Mumbai received 91 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours, which stopped at 8 am on Saturday, while its eastern and western suburbs recorded 87 mm and 93 mm of rainfall, respectively. The department predicted moderate-to-heavy rainfall in the city.

Because of intense rain, waterlogging on certain roads and railway tracks causes hindrance to public transportation. Local trains were running late by 15 to 20 minutes in the city.

One of the seven key sources of potable water for Mumbai, Tulsi Lake, has started overflowing due to heavy rain over the past few days.

As a positive sign the lave being full of brim, Mumbaikars have been facing a 10 per cent water cut.

In Borivali's Sanjay Gandhi National Park, 20 people got stuck in flooded water. Forest department employees formed a human chain to help people cross the fast-flowing stream from one side to the other.

IMD issued, severe rainfall is expected to whip Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Konkan, and Goa regions on Saturday. Besides Mumbai, there is a yellow alert for 12 districts in the state, including Pune, Thane, Nashik, and Palghar districts.

IMD has also forecasted heavy rainfall in the southern states of Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Yanam during the next two days.
