Eleven people died due to heatstroke in a crowd of thousands during an event in Navi Mumbai on Sunday. Of these, 8 are women and most are elderly. 24 are in the hospital. The Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heat wave in all five states on Sunday.
According to the Meteorological Department, there will be an outbreak of severe heat wave in Punjab and Haryana on Monday and Tuesday. The heat will be scorching in Bihar, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh for the next four-five days. Apart from this, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee has directed to keep all schools and colleges in the state closed till Saturday.
The department has predicted rain in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh on Tuesday and in Himachal Pradesh on April 18 and 19. It may rain in Uttarakhand on 19 April.
