Two cyber cheaters duped a woman of 96,000 on the pretext of increasing the credit limit on her credit card. The cyber police station of the North District of Delhi Police arrested the two culprits and recovered Rs 15,000, 4 mobile phones and 2 SIM cards.

The two fraudsters, Anant Choudhary and Rahul, using a unique modus operandi, called the victim on her mobile phone and secured Credit Card details in the name of limit increase.

Accused then asked for her email ID registered with her Credit Card and tried to log in by using the "Forget Password" option. They also directed the victim to accept Google notifications received on her mobile phone for a new login and thereby succeeded in log in to her Gmail Account and secured OTP for the transaction. They transferred money in two different digital wallets.

“A complaint on MHA Cyber Crime Portal from a lady complainant, who is a resident of Bara Hindu Rao, was received on October 22, 2021, wherein she alleged that she received a call from a mobile number on the same day where the caller introduced him as an executive of a Bank Credit Card and offered her a scheme to increase Credit Card limit of her card to Rs 2 Lacs,” Sagar Singh Kalsi, Dy. Commissioner of Police, North District, said.

He added, “Following this, the complainant gave the caller her credit card number and immediately Rs 96000 got debited from her Credit Card. Complainant also alleged that no OTP was shared, but despite that money was transferred from her Credit Card.”

An FIR was registered in Cyber Police Station North District and a dedicated team was tasked to identify the accused and arrest them. Technical analysis of Call Details & Bank Details was done and it was found that Credit Card was transferred to online wallets. Detail of the alleged mobile number was obtained/analysed and after detailed technical investigation, the accused was identified as Anant Chaudhary alias Aman, aged 23 and a resident of Uttam Nagar and Rahul, aged 22 and a resident of Najafgarh.

During the investigation, 4 mobile phones, 2 SIM cards were recovered from the possession of the accused person. According to the investigation team,  accused Anant even tried to destroy mobile phones but the staff climbed a two-storey house to enter and stop the accused from destroying the mobile phone.

“During interrogation, it disclosed that the accused Anant and Rahul have experience of working in Direct Selling Agent (DSA) and both are involved in the creation of Credit Card for several banks,” Kalsi said.

He added, “During this, they came to know about various methods of cheating from Credit Card and accused arranged SIM card for the cheating. Accused are working in DSA and have excess to DATA.”
