HDFC Bank to install mobile ATM machines to facilitate people amid Covid-19 restrictions
In a single day, the Mobile ATMs are supposed to cover three to four locations. People are directed to stand in a line to withdraw cash when the machine reaches their area, ensuring social distancing.

Many states across India have placed localised lockdown like constraints due to the increase in Covid-19 incidents, therefore on Saturday HDFC Bank announced the launch of mobile automated teller machines (ATM) across 19 cities in India, including Mumbai, Chennai, Pune, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Hosur, Trichy, Salem, Dehradun, Lucknow, and Allahabad.
S Sampathkumar, Group Head, Liability Products, Third Party Products and Non-Resident Business, HDFC Bank said, “During this difficult time, we want to do our part to help everyone stay home and stay safe as we stand together to curb the spread of COVID19. This service will also be of great help to all the healthcare workers, and other essential service providers who have been working tirelessly to combat the pandemic.”
On April 24, HDFC Bank announced the rollout of mobile ATMs to cater to customers during the lockdown. The bank in a press release informed that these will be introduced in restricted or locked out locations, after referring with local authorities to identify these zones, so that people would not have to leave their community to withdraw cash.
In a single day, the Mobile ATMs are supposed to cover three to four locations. People are directed to stand in a line to withdraw cash when the machine reaches their area, ensuring social distancing.
Sampathkumar also stated, “We hope our mobile ATM will provide a great support for people who want to avail basic financial services without having to venture far from their neighbourhood.”
According to the bank’s press release, customers will be able to use these mobile ATMs for 16 different services, including cash withdrawals, modifying ATM pin numbers, prepaid mobile recharge services, payment of utility bills, and card-less cash withdrawals.
