As the new year is around, state governments have made elaborate arrangements to keep a watch on the super spreader events that can allow the virus to spread.
To avoid any such situation, many state governments such as Delhi, Maharashtra, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka among others have decided to impose restrictions on late-night parties in many cities which are favourite tourist destinations.
Sea beaches and popular public places such as the Gateway of India in Mumbai and India Gate in Delhi will have large gatherings of people. However, there is no bar on traffic movement in any place.
The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Union Home Ministry has already issued necessary advisories to all the states and union territories to impose restrictions depending upon the local situations.
Active cases of Covid-19 are on a constant decline for the past six months and the government wants to control it further.
“Celebrations are always super spreader events. People gather and lower their guards. The virus gets a new host in that situation,” a senior health official said.
He added, “In the wake of a new virus that has arrived in India from the UK, we cannot afford to relax and take things for granted.”
Many senior doctors agree that the new virus is seven times more infectious than the existing one and India has already got 20 patients infected with the new virus.
“Any laxity on the part of the government and people will take us back to a situation where hospitals were flooded with patients in the month of April and May,” the health official quoted above said.
