Guwahati-Chennai IndiGo Flight Issues ‘Mayday’ Alert, Lands Safely After Mid-Air Scare
The Guwahati-Chennai IndiGo flight was reportedly diverted from its original flight path due to congestion at Chennai airport causing it to not land in time.

On Thursday, an IndiGo flight from Guwahati to Chennai with 168 passengers was diverted to Kempegowda International Airport in Bangalore, which was badly needed. Its scary though, that the pilot reported a mayday landing but landed safely. The incident took place days after an Air India plane crashed in Ahmedabad shortly after take off on to the landing runway killing what is reported 270 person on board, which included 241 passengers and crew.

IndiGo Airlines did not issue a statement on the issue.
The legendary emergency landing of the flight took place after the Chennai airport was congested and the plane could not land on time. The flight landed in Bengaluru at 8:15 pm on June 19. According to NDTV, both pilots of the flight were de-rostered.
According to the reports, the pilot attempted to land the plane in Chennai airport about 7:45 pm, but he aborted the landing attempt because it was congested and decided to divert to Bengaluru. About 35 minutes before the flight was to land at the Kempegowda airport in Bengaluru, the pilot signalled that he was in distress and not enough fuel was on board the flight according to The Times of India.

The TOI reported, quoting sources, that when the distress call was received, air traffic control had deployed fire and medical services and was able to land the plane safely about 8:15 pm.
One passenger is reported to have said that after trying to land in Chennai the plane had come in abruptly and steeply, which made many of them "on edge."
On Friday, another Indigo flight to Madurai turned back to Chennai after flying a mid-air snag. After flying for approximately half an hour, the pilot of the Indigo Airlines flight perceived a snag while flying and sought permission to fly back to Chennai and land. This flight landed safely after having approximately 68 passengers aboard.
