A highly contagious Omicron subvariant BF.7 has been detected in India. The BF.7 variant was first found in China and has now reached the United States, UK, Australia and Belgium. The sub-variant was the first case detected in Gujarat, which was confirmed by the Gujarat Biotechnology Research Center and described as 'omicron spawn'.

There is concern about the variant BF.7 as it can pass on immunity from previous infections and vaccines. "We are monitoring the situation to see if this version is becoming more viral," an official told The New Indian Express.

Cases across China have started with the BF.7 variant. In fact, the World Health Organization warned against the highly contagious BF.7 COVID subvariant. It is also expected to become a new flagship variant of the subvariant.
