A photographer and journalist, he was born in southeast Iran on March 29, 1944. This doodle spans Ireland, the United Kingdom, France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, and Pakistan.
About his life
Throughout his career, he covered wars and revolutions in Biafra, Bangladesh, Northern Ireland, Vietnam, Bosnia, the Middle East, the Yom Kippur War of 1973, Chile, Cuba, and apartheid in South Africa.
For his coverage of the Iranian Revolution in 1978-1979, he achieved worldwide acclaim and maintained a lifelong interest in religion and its intersection with society. In a seminal book titled 'Iran: the Confiscated Revolution', he documented the rise of religious fundamentalism in Iran.
In 'Return to Oapan and Return to Mexico' and 'Journeys Beyond the Mask', Abbas describes Mexico through his perspective. He also documents the major religions of the world, including the resurgence of radical Islam.
