Germany preparing to separate Russia by inviting PM Modi to G-7 meeting

(PM Narendra Modi) arrived in Germany on Monday on the first leg of his three-nation tour of Europe, where he will hold a bilateral meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and India-Germany intergovernmental discussions. Will co-chair the program. On reaching here, Modi tweeted, "Reached Berlin. Today I will talk to Chancellor Olaf Scholz, meet business leaders and address a community event. I am sure that this visit will deepen the friendship between India and Germany.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz plans to isolate Russia internationally by inviting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to be a special guest at next month's G7 meeting. Germany currently holds the presidency of the G-7 countries. Germany has also invited Indonesia, South Africa, and Senegal to the meeting to be held from June 26-28. The final decision has not yet been taken on the invitation of India to the G-7 meeting. A final decision can be taken when Olaf Scholz welcomes Prime Minister Modi at the Indo-German joint cabinet meeting in Berlin.

Ahead of his departure, Prime Minister Modi said in a statement that his visit to Berlin would provide an opportunity for talks with Chancellor Scholz, whom he had met at the G20 last year when he was vice-chancellor and finance minister. He said, “We will co-chair the 6th India-Germany Intergovernmental Consultations (IGC), a special program that India does only with Germany. The Prime Minister said, "I see this IGC as an initiative of dialogue with the new government of Germany, which is taking place within six months of the formation of the government. This will help in identifying the medium and long-term priorities.
