Four hours interrogation of municipality officer regarding Morbi bridge accident
One of the accused in the Gujarat bridge accident told the court that this incident happened because of the 'will of God'. This comment has been made by Deepak Parekh, the manager of Oreva Company, responsible for the maintenance of the 150-year-old bridge. He is one of the nine people arrested after the bridge crashed on Sunday. 135 people died in this accident.
On Wednesday, the police questioned the chief officer of the municipality regarding the bridge accident in Morbi, Gujarat. In this four-hour long interrogation, the police answered questions on the contract given to the Orewa company for the repair of the bridge. Also tried to know under what rules the contract was given to this company. So far 135 people have died in the Morbi accident. More than 100 people have also been seriously injured in this accident.
Morbi Municipality Officer Sandeep Singh Jhala was also questioned by the police about the contracts awarded to the Oreva company and the materials used during the repairs. The special thing is that according to the documents which have been presented in the local court regarding this whole matter, the company which was given the work of repairing this bridge did not have much experience in it. Therefore, he mainly did only the work of dyeing and painting the cable installed on the bridge.
The police asked Jhala whether the company concerned had insisted on how many people should be allowed to go on the old bridge at the same time when an agreement was being reached with the Orewa company for the repair of the bridge. Police investigation has revealed that the process was ignored while issuing the tender to Orewa Company.
