In the ongoing captaincy dispute between BCCI and Virat Kohli, Virat has got support from former selector Dilip Vengsarkar. Dilip Vengsarkar said that it has been an old habit of BCCI to remove the captains of the Indian team unnecessarily. Looking at the performance, Virat deserved a better farewell.
In an interview to Khaleej Times, Vengsakar said, "Ganguly did not mean to speak on behalf of the selection committee. Ganguly is the president of BCCI. The chief selector should come out and give a statement on the controversy surrounding the selection and captaincy in the Indian team."
In the interview, Vengsarkar openly targeted Dada on many issues. He said, 'Ganguly gave his opinion on the whole matter. That is why Virat also wanted to make his point clear. I believe it was a matter between the chairman of the selection committee and the captain. It is not within the jurisdiction of Ganguly whether a captain is selected or removed by the selection committee.
Virat has made a significant contribution to Indian cricket and his country and he deserved a better farewell. Removing Indian captains unnecessarily is an old tradition of the board. This needs to be changed.
