For the first time after Border Clash, Foreign Ministers of India and China engage in a Diplomatic Meet

New Delhi: In what can be heralded as a diplomatic victory, the Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar met his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi. As per the officials, this meeting is for delegation-level talks between the two countries undergoing a border tussle in Ladakh and Kashmir. India and China have continued to rock heads since a border clash in the year 2020. Since then the relations between the two Asian countries have worsened. The visit of Wang Yi was unannounced as per the official.

Attempts were made to make this meet discreet. No official announcement of the visit was made, neither in New Delhi nor in Beijing. Wang Yi is set to meet External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

The diplomatic meet initiated with Wang Yi, meeting the National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval. According to the external ministry, they discussed the implication of the Russia-Ukraine war on both the countries and its geopolitical impact on them. After the Ladakh scrimmage, this is the first time that an important visit from China has been made to India. Both sides spoke about the need for early and complete disengagement in the disputed areas.

Last month, Foreign Minister Jaishankar had said India's relations with China are going through a "very difficult phase" after Beijing violated the border agreements and asserted that the "state of the border will determine the state of the relationship".

Wang Yi visited Pakistan and Afghanistan this week and is set to fly to Nepal later in the day. This is being attributed that this is being done by China to deepen their influence in South Asia. India has already asserted that "matters related to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir are entirely the internal affairs of India" and that other countries, including China, had no locus standi to comment.
